Kate Stolz was born on October 11, 1943 and died on August 20, 2024
On October 11, 1943, the Yankees shut out the Cardinals at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis. Spud Chandler’s pitching was masterful, and Bill Dickey’s two-run homer in the sixth inning provided the game’s only runs. With Joe DiMaggio and Phil Rizzuto away serving in the military, the team leaned on its veterans that day.
A thousand miles away, at Cape Cod Hospital in Barnstable, Massachusetts, Bonnie Brown entered the world kicking.
Many years later, she would become Bonnie Mead, then Katherine Jeanette Mead, and eventually Kate Stolz. We may, or may not, learn more about that later.
